BP Plans To Drill Off Coast of Libya

BP had recently changed their name before the Gulf oil spill, from British Petroleum to BP, with the slogan beyond petroleum. This was their effort at greening their brand even though BP produced nothing but petroleum products. Well, after the disaster in the Gulf of Mexico I don't think they can so easily wash their hands of the petroleum label. BP now has plans to drill for oil off the coast of Libya. The well they plan to drill will be 200 meters deeper than the one in the Gulf of Mexico.

Yes that's right the company that brought the U.S. its worst ecological disaster ever, is at it again. So the latest news out of Libya brings many questions to mind. Among the most disturbing are allegations that BP conducted a prisoner for oil trade in which they agreed to lobby the UK to transfer Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi, the man responsible for the bombing of Pan Am flight 103 in exchange for drilling rights in Libya. In 2009 The UK released Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi to Libyan authorities and months later BP had signed a contract for drilling rights.

The Gulf of Mexico may never be the same after greed based negligence caused the worst disaster in U.S. history. BP is avoiding pay outs to victims demanding proof of lost wages and medical bills. The true cost can not be calculated and we all are victims having an entire ecosystem destroyed. we may not see the full ramifications for years to come, but BP has already moved on and is planning a deeper and riskier well in the Gulf of Sirte. BP is moving the Deep Ocean Ascension oil rig from the Gulf of Mexico to the Libyan coast. Eerily similar to the Deep water Horizon doesn't it.

Are we headed for another of the worlds most tragic environmental disasters as greed runs rampant and BP is allowed to reap ridiculous
