Every Moment We Are At Choice
Happiness is a choice. I read a fantastic book that I highly recommend called, How We Choose To Be happy that really opened my eyes. It seems like such a basic concept right, I mean everyone wants to be happy, or do they?
Sometimes sadness can seem so comforting. Nobody understands me, so i will just wallow in my own uniqueness for a while and enjoy the solitude of misery. While it is true that misery loves company, sometimes when we are down we refuse to reach out to another and just barricade ourselves away reveling in the self perpetuating gloom that isolation brings.
I know what to do when I feel lonely, go out and be with or at least around other people. Why is it then that sometimes that is the hardest thing to do. It can feel like a weight is tied around your ankle making it difficult to venture out. We know what we need, but for some reason we make ourselves out to be a martyr of misery and decide to stay in.Choosing to be alone when lonely. This seems like madness, right?
I have never regretted breaking this cycle, and have ended up enjoying myself every time I have. Sometimes it feels harder than others, but I know it works. Just to change the scenery is powerful. Even if I just get out of the house and take a walk around the neighborhood, it has a powerful effect and shifts my perspective.
Just a twenty minute walk is proven to have a physiological effect. We are social creatures that need the company of other people. Even just the act of being with a group of people has a powerful effect, our energy fields commingle and interact. Forcing yourself to smile is also proven to positively change brain waves. There are many little tricks you can perform to lighten your mood, should you find yourself slipping into a funk. Some of my favorites are hula hooping, singing, meditation, playing guitar, watching comedy, or even just cuddling with my cat.
Some may experience a chemical imbalance that is best treated by medication, but for most of us, I believe simple remedies are at hand. One cannot underestimate the importance of getting enough sunlight. It is recommended that you get at least ten minutes of direct sun per day. Nothing lifts my spirits like sitting in the morning sun with a cup of tea and facing the sun with my eyes closed. This is one of my favorite methods of meditation as well.
So the next time you find yourself in a funk, I urge you to break the cycle and take action. Remember that you are the master of your own destiny, you are the conductor of your symphony, and you can choose to be happy. If all else fails, one fool proof method is to help someone who is having a more difficult time than yourself. There is something glorious about altruism that is beneficial to both parties.

Thanks for this Hub. I think that while some people have better luck than others, you can really try to look at life positively and be more optimistic.

And sometimes it's difficult to choose. We usually want to choose to be happy, sometimes we succeed and sometimes failed.
